point of information for anyone living in the san francisco / bay area:
if you / one of your people with private health insurance (aka non-medicare or medicaid) have to go to the hospital, if possible avoid going to zuckerberg san francisco general for treatment
at least as of right now (9 jan 2019) they are not contracted with any private insurance company, which means they’re out of network, which means that you will get bodyslammed into the next century with massively higher bills. this includes emergency room coverage, which is highly unusual, but again: the entire hospital is out of network for all private insurance plans.
#this isn’t some massively evil thing they’re doing necessarily#(refusing all gov’t based insurance#aka medicaid#aka poorer people#would be way worse)#but they do not make it easy at all to find out#and odn’t advertise it#i can understand why they did it tbh and it’s probably bc they got a massive influx of liquidity#and have the leverage to blow off the private company negotiations#which allows them to set their chargemaster rates to a lower level than usual#and accommodate public payers#or w/e maybe it’s not idk but it’s generally unlikely that a hospital would throw a huge middle finger to the whole insurance industry#without having a financial safety net#so#w/e#it still leaves a shitload of people in a garbage position
